Entre os dias 20 e 29 de Maio de 1968, os Beatles, que haviam recentemente voltado da Índia, se reuniram na casa de George Harrison para fazer um balanço das músicas que haviam composto no ashram do Rajneesh. Munidos de um gravador Ampex de 4 canais, de George, eles fizeram uma espécie de "sarau", com seus violões, cada um tocando suas novas composições. Essa coleção de novas músicas, somadas a algumas que ainda seriam compostas, se transformariam no álbum duplo The Beatles, lançado naquele ano (também conhecido como White Album, ou Álbum Branco, no Brasil).

Essa coleção de gravações provavelmente também foi importante como guia para o produtor George Martin, na hora de entrarem em estúdio pra valer. Não se sabe como, as fitas vazaram e caiu na mão de gravadoras "alternativas", que lançaram diversos bootlegs com o material, desde a época do vinil, cada um com um tracklist diferente. Essa versão que disponibilizamos aqui para download em MP3 128kbps é uma das primeiras (provavelmente a primeira) lançada em CD. Em tempo: o estranho título (Kinfauns) é o nome da confortável casa de George em Esher, um distrito de Londres.

Kinfauns was George’s comfortable little one-story house in Esher, outside of London. It was there that the Beatles gathered sometime during May 20-29 of 1968, using George’s four-track Ampex reel-to-reel to tape acoustic group demos of the many songs they’d written while at the Maharishi’s ashram in Rishikesh, India.

During their stay at the Maharishi’s ashram in Rishikesh, India in the early spring of 1968, the Beatles had written an unprecedented number of new songs. While late April and early May were busily spent launching Apple, the first sessions for their new LP (later to become known as “The White Album”) were looming.

All these acoustic group demos were recorded sometime during May 20-29, 1968, when all four Beatles gathered at Kinfauns, George’s comfortable little one-story house Esher, not far outside of London. Derek Taylor’s name is mentioned during the sessions, and he may have been running George’s four-track Ampex reel-to-reel, on which these historic performances were preserved.
